Makoko Residents protest demolition and killings.

A friend sent this picture of Makoko residents protesting this morning.

They were mostly women and children matching along the street, waving different materials and chanting protest songs. She couldn't tell for sure but from all indication, they were protesting the demolition of the Makoko settlement, killing of one of the residents and several arrests made.

Recall that the demolition and killing happened sometime last week. If you didn't read it, click HERE to read it up.

There was a police patrol van waiting to swing into action if the protest became violent. She couldn't get a picture of the van though.

  1. I'm not surprised at all that they're protesting. Those demolitions were done brutally.

  2. Let's hope this doesn't degenerate to violence, that way, even more blood will be shed. I wonder what plans the government have for these poor ones.

  3. Seriously, if these residents had a choice, would they have chosen to stay in that dirty, stinking water? When will people get up to speak for the poor in this country?

  4. Where are are leaders of occupy Nigeria? Isn't this a bad enough case to cry out about? I mean, how can these poor fisher men help themselves? They will only end up getting killed.

  5. Their homes and source of survival have been taken away from them. What hope do they have?
